Description
Single-press control for your SmartDrive
The Buddy Button replaces small, precise controls with one oversized target. Press it and the SmartDrive engages; press it again to disengage. There is nothing to grip, pinch, or aim for, which keeps the SmartDrive usable on days when fine motor control is harder to rely on.
Built for a large activation area
The button presents roughly a 2.5 inch (63 mm) activation surface. Because the whole face is live, you do not need to hit a specific point — contact anywhere on the dome triggers it. That tolerance is what makes it work for users with tremors, spasticity, or a limited range of motion.
Clear tactile and audible feedback
Every press produces a defined click you can both feel and hear, so you get direct confirmation that the SmartDrive registered the input. This is useful if you have reduced sensation in your hands or cannot easily see the button from your seated position.
Mount it where it actually works for you
The Buddy Button attaches with standard hardware or hook-and-loop, so placement is up to you and your therapist — armrest, lap tray, frame tube, or chest harness. Positioning is often the difference between an accessory you use and one you do not, so it is worth trialling a few spots.
Do I need the SmartDrive assembly?
The Buddy Button connects through a SwitchControl with a mono jack. Not every SwitchControl has one — older units do not.
- Add the assembly if your SwitchControl has no mono jack, or you are adding a Buddy Button to an existing SmartDrive for the first time. It supplies the mount and the wire conversion for your SmartDrive unit.
- Skip it if your SwitchControl already has the mono jack — the Buddy Button alone is enough.
If you are not sure which SwitchControl you have, contact us before ordering. A photo of your unit is usually enough for us to tell.
Compatibility
- Works with the SmartDrive MX2+ and current SmartDrive models.
- No extra programming beyond the standard SmartDrive setup.
