One-piece vs. two-piece systems
One-piece — the skin barrier and pouch are joined as a single unit. Low-profile and simple to apply.
Two-piece — a separate barrier (wafer) and pouch that click or stick together, so you can change the pouch without removing the barrier.
Pouch types
Drainable — emptied and reused through the day; best for liquid or frequent output (ileostomy).
Closed-end — removed and replaced when full; common for formed output (colostomy).
Urostomy — a tap or valve at the bottom for urine drainage.
Skin barriers & fit
Barriers come flat or convex (convex helps with a recessed or flush stoma), and cut-to-fit or pre-cut. Measure your stoma with the included guide and cut the opening just slightly larger than the stoma to protect the surrounding skin. Accessories like paste, barrier rings, powder and adhesive remover help achieve a secure, leak-free seal.
