Compression Stockings & Socks in Canada
Graduated compression garments apply the most pressure at the ankle and gradually less up the leg, helping blood return to the heart. They are used to manage varicose veins, leg swelling (oedema) and lymphedema, to help prevent deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) during travel or after surgery, and for comfort during pregnancy or long hours on your feet. FinalMedic carries medical-grade compression from JOBST and other trusted brands, shipped free across Canada on orders over $140.
Choosing your compression level (mmHg)
Compression is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). The right level depends on your condition — when in doubt, follow your physician’s or therapist’s prescription.
15–20 mmHg (mild): everyday support for tired, achy legs, travel, mild varicose veins and pregnancy. Available without a prescription.
20–30 mmHg (Class I, moderate): the most common medical level — moderate varicose veins, mild-to-moderate swelling, post-sclerotherapy and DVT prevention.
30–40 mmHg (Class II, firm): significant swelling, lymphedema, venous insufficiency and post-thrombotic syndrome. Usually prescribed.
40–50 mmHg (Class III, extra firm): severe lymphedema and chronic venous disease, under clinical supervision.
Styles we carry
Knee-high — the most popular style for vein support and swelling below the knee.
Thigh-high — full-leg coverage when swelling extends above the knee.
Pantyhose & waist-high — full-leg compression with a comfortable waistband.
Arm sleeves & gauntlets — for upper-limb lymphedema, often following breast-cancer surgery.
Getting the right size
Compression garments are sized by measurement, not by shoe or dress size. Measure first thing in the morning before swelling builds: ankle circumference, calf circumference, and — for thigh-high or pantyhose — thigh circumference and leg length. Each product page lists the manufacturer’s size chart; match your measurements to the chart rather than guessing.
Insurance & prescriptions
Medical-grade compression (20–30 mmHg and above) is often covered by private insurance and some provincial programs. We can bill many insurers directly — see our Assignment of Benefits page, or call 1-800-295-8579 and our team will help you choose the right garment.
