Sizing data below is taken from the current JOBST Canada ready-to-wear catalogue (Essity Canada) and is given in centimetres, the unit JOBST uses in Canada. Updated October 2026 by the FinalMedic team.
JOBST compression stockings are sized by leg measurements, not by shoe size or height. Two numbers decide a knee-high (ankle and calf circumference), four decide a thigh-high or waist-high (ankle, calf, thigh and, for pantyhose, hip), and a length measurement decides Petite, Regular or Long. Measure once, correctly, and the chart below gives you the size for every JOBST line sold in Canada. If your numbers fall into two sizes, call us at 1-800-295-8579; a fitter will tell you which way to go.
Before you measure
- Measure in the morning, within an hour of getting up, before any swelling builds. An evening measurement can push you up a full size and the stocking will then be too loose by noon.
- Use a soft tape measure, flat against bare skin, snug but not pulling in.
- Stand with your weight on both feet for circumferences; sit for the lower-leg length.
- Measure both legs. If they differ, size each leg separately; JOBST stockings are sold by the pair but we can advise on mixed sizes.
- Have someone help if you can. Bending to your own ankle changes the reading.
How to measure for a knee-high
- Ankle (cB): the circumference at the narrowest point of the ankle, just above the ankle bone. This is always the first and most important measurement; it decides your size.
- Calf (cC): the circumference at the fullest part of the calf.
- Lower-leg length (LD): sit with your knee bent at 90 degrees and measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee (one finger below the crease). This decides Petite, Regular or Long.
How to measure for a thigh-high or waist-high
- Ankle (cB) and calf (cC) as above.
- Thigh (cG): the circumference at the fullest part of the thigh, just below the gluteal fold.
- Hip (cH), waist-high only: the circumference around the fullest part of the hips.
- Leg length: standing, from the floor to the gluteal fold. This decides Petite or Regular for thigh-high and waist-high garments.
JOBST size chart (cm): UltraSheer, Opaque, Relief, forMen, ActiveWear, Sport, SensiFoot
JOBST uses one chart for all of these lines. Match your ankle first, then confirm the calf; if your calf is above the range for your ankle size, choose the Full Calf version of that size.
| Measurement | Small | Medium | Large | X-Large | Large Full Calf | X-Large Full Calf |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ankle (cB) | 18-21 | 21-25 | 25-29 | 29-33 | 25-30 | 30-36 |
| Calf (cC) | 28-38 | 30-42 | 32-46 | 34-50 | 46-61 | 46-61 |
| Thigh (cG), thigh-high and waist-high | 40-62 | 46-70 | 54-78 | 60-81 | – | – |
| Hip (cH), waist-high | 71-117 | 76-127 | 81-137 | 102-166 | – | – |
Length, knee-high (lower-leg length LD): Petite up to 38 cm; Regular over 38 cm; Long (Tall) over 50 cm. Length, thigh-high and waist-high (floor to gluteal fold): Petite up to 68.5 cm; Regular over 68.5 cm. All lengths are Regular unless the product says Petite or Long.
Full Calf sizes exist in the knee-high styles of Relief, forMen, ActiveWear, Sport and Style. If you measure an ankle of 25-30 cm and a calf of 46-61 cm, choose Large Full Calf rather than forcing a Large or X-Large.
JOBST Style (argyle) size chart (cm)
Style uses the same circumferences but its own length cut-offs.
| Measurement | Small | Medium | Large | X-Large | Large Full Calf | X-Large Full Calf |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ankle (cB) | 18-21 | 21-25 | 25-29 | 29-33 | 25-30 | 30-36 |
| Calf (cC) | 28-38 | 30-42 | 32-46 | 34-50 | 46-61 | 46-61 |
Length (LD): Petite under 40 cm; Regular 40-44 cm; Long over 44 cm.
JOBST UlcerCare size chart (cm)
The UlcerCare 2-in-1 system (liner plus 40 mmHg outer stocking) runs from Small to 3X-Large and is sized on ankle and calf only.
| Measurement | Small | Medium | Large | X-Large | 2X-Large | 3X-Large |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Inches to centimetres
If you measured in inches, multiply by 2.54. Quick reference: 7 in = 17.8 cm, 8 in = 20.3 cm, 9 in = 22.9 cm, 10 in = 25.4 cm, 11 in = 27.9 cm, 12 in = 30.5 cm, 13 in = 33 cm, 14 in = 35.6 cm, 15 in = 38.1 cm, 16 in = 40.6 cm, 18 in = 45.7 cm, 20 in = 50.8 cm, 24 in = 61 cm.
Worked examples
- Ankle 23 cm, calf 36 cm, lower leg 41 cm: Medium Regular in any knee-high line.
- Ankle 27 cm, calf 52 cm: the calf is above the Large range (32-46), so choose Large Full Calf (ankle 25-30, calf 46-61).
- Ankle 20 cm, calf 33 cm, lower leg 36 cm: Small Petite.
- Ankle 31 cm, calf 44 cm, thigh 66 cm, floor to gluteal fold 72 cm: X-Large Regular thigh-high.
- Ankle 22 cm, calf 40 cm, lower leg 46 cm, JOBST Style: Medium Long (Style’s Long starts above 44 cm).
Signs your size is wrong
A correctly sized JOBST stocking feels firm at the ankle, lighter at the calf, and stays up without rolling. Too small: the top band digs in or rolls, toes tingle or change colour, the stocking will not pull past the heel. Too large: wrinkles behind the knee or at the ankle (wrinkles concentrate pressure and can mark the skin), the stocking slides down by midday, or it feels like a regular sock. Re-measure in the morning and compare again; if you are between sizes at a medical level (20-30 mmHg or higher), ask a fitter rather than guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure for JOBST compression stockings?
Measure in the morning with a soft tape: ankle circumference at the narrowest point above the ankle bone, calf circumference at the fullest point, and for thigh-high or waist-high the fullest thigh and, for pantyhose, the hip. Measure the lower-leg length from the floor to the bend of the knee while seated for Petite, Regular or Long.
What size JOBST do I need if my ankle is 24 cm?
An ankle of 24 cm falls in Medium (21-25 cm). Confirm that your calf is between 30 and 42 cm; if it is larger, consider a Full Calf size.
What is the difference between JOBST Petite, Regular and Long?
They are lengths, not circumferences. For knee-highs, Petite fits a lower leg up to 38 cm from floor to knee bend, Regular over 38 cm, and Long over 50 cm. For thigh-high and waist-high, Petite fits a leg up to 68.5 cm from floor to gluteal fold and Regular over 68.5 cm. JOBST Style has its own cut-offs: Petite under 40 cm, Regular 40-44 cm, Long over 44 cm.
What is a Full Calf size?
Full Calf sizes keep the ankle range of a Large or X-Large but allow a calf of 46 to 61 cm. They are made for muscular or heavier calves and avoid the band digging in at the top.
Do JOBST sizes run small?
No. JOBST sizes follow the circumference chart exactly, which is why they feel tight if you choose by shoe size. Measured correctly, a JOBST stocking should be firm at the ankle and stay up without rolling.
Should I size up if I am between sizes?
At 15-20 mmHg, sizing up is usually comfortable and safe. At 20-30 mmHg and above, ask a fitter or call us; the right answer depends on whether it is your ankle or calf that is borderline.
Is the JOBST size chart in inches or centimetres?
JOBST Canada publishes its chart in centimetres. Multiply inches by 2.54 to convert, or use the quick reference in this guide.
