Description
The Bard Red Rubber Coude Intermittent Catheter is a single-use urinary catheter used for self-intermittent catheterization (IC) — the gold-standard bladder management technique for individuals with neurogenic bladder, incomplete emptying, or post-surgical retention. IC catheters are inserted as needed (typically 4–6 times per day), used to drain the bladder, then removed and discarded.
The coude (curved) tip helps navigate around prostate enlargement, urethral strictures, or false passages. Coude tips are commonly prescribed for male users where straight-tip catheters meet resistance at the bladder neck.
Compared to indwelling Foley catheters, intermittent catheterization carries lower long-term UTI risk, allows the urethra to rest between uses, and supports more normal bladder function. The technique can be learned at home with proper training from a continence nurse.
